About

GINC Critical Technology, the research, patents and companies behind each critical technology.

GINC Critical Technology maps the Critical Technology domain of the GINC national capability framework: ten capability groups and forty-seven capabilities, from structural materials to satellite constellations. The framework holds technology as national capacity, the capacity to discover, make, deploy and control it, rather than as a catalogue of research fields.

Each capability has a page with three bodies of evidence:

  • Research: who discovers the technology. Papers classified to the capability, by year, by the nations of their authors’ institutions, and the institutions that lead.
  • Patents: who protects the inventions. Patent families in the classification the capability is read from, by origin nation and applicant, with how concentrated filing is.
  • Companies: who makes and supplies it. Coming next.

The site is one of the GINC index sites. Its research figures come from GINC Research (research.ginc.org) and its patent figures from GINC Patents (patents.ginc.org), mapped to the same capability identifiers.
